SURVEY: The Transportation Research and Analysis computing center is conducting a survey to help with improvement of emergency evacuation planning in Chicago

TRACC researchers under a contract with the City of Chicago are developing a model which predicts a response of a transportation network to an evacuation event. Emergency responders from OEMC and other local emergency management personal are to use the model results for "intuition training" purposes and developing plans and management strategies for an evacuation of an area affected by no-notice accident, like chemical spill. One of the components of the components of the model simulates behavior of the population during the evacuation. Modeled behavioral characteristics include response time, choice to evacuate or shelter in place, mode of transportation and people's response to different types of warnings. In order to calibrate the behavioral model we are conducting this survey. This survey will help with the improvement of emergency evacuation planning in Chicago.
