Abstract
=========
TRANSIMS was used to develop an integrated planning / simulation model of the Buffalo / Niagara Falls area. The planning model encompasses the U.S. side of the entire region, while the subarea microsimulation component includes much more detailed modeling of the I-190 corridor, including an international border crossing. We show how such a model can be used to assess the regional impacts of local changes in bottleneck capacity.

Biography
==========
Scott Smith is an operations research analyst with wide-ranging experience in the analysis and modeling of transportation systems. While at the Volpe Center, Dr. Smith's work has included an examination of the potential impact of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) on regional planning models, and the development of several surface traffic assignment and simulation models, including a TRANSIMS implementation at Buffalo / Niagara Falls. Clients have included many operating administrations of USDOT, the National Park Service, as well as local agencies.
